ILSY:
1995. The Band Sheela releases their debut album „Burned Down“. The band had it's success in Asia and could have had more success maybe, but short after the release, singer and songwriter of the majority of the songs, Wolfgang Terne splits with the band. The band wanted to move more into the direction of progressive rock like Dream Theater, who came up these days but Wolfgang wanted to follow the path of blues based rock songs like Whitesnake and Thunder played those days.
Let's jump into 2024, where Lion's Pride Music / Denmark made an arrangement with the former bandmembers of Sheela to rerelase „Burned Down“ again. In that process, Lion's Pride Chris Siloma and Wolfgang Terne agreed to make another album together. Wolfgang anyway wanted to go back to the roots so the moment was perfect. Finally here we are in 2026 now, where ILSY (named after Wolfgangs nikname) are bringing out their debut album.
„This is pretty much the way, I wrote songs in 1995, but of course 30 years and a lot of experiences in life later.“ Wolfgang says.
The band members all listened to the same artists back in the day, so they were able to create music without any compromises. Nico Schliemann, the guitar player, is well known for being a member of the Martin Miller Project, where even Doug Aldrich, Paul Gilbert and Chris Buck were guests. Bass player Franco Zeleny used to play on two records of Germany's platinum selling super band PUR. Wolfgang Terne played jams with Bobby Kimball, formerly TOTO.
Ilsy – by the way spelled with an „e“ not an „i“ as first letter wanted to bring out a classic guitar rock music album, so you almost hear no synthesizers, just some Hammond and Rhodes stuff. Blues based rockers and ballds was the goal.
Wolfgang says: „We all love the 80s rockbands like Bon Jovi, Dokken, Def Leppard, the big time of AOR that dominated the charts, but we wanted to move even one step earlier than that. We watched a couple of epic live concerts of our favourite 70s bands on youtube and listened a lot to our vinyl collections and then wrote the whole album in about 2-3 weeks. Just like a surfer waiting for THAT PERFECT wave and then surf it down. „Music from the time, where Singer-Songwriter discovered distorted guitars“ explains the band laughing.
From the – a bit more modern – opener Never Gonna Come Back to the epic Sea Of Life this debut album offers a variety of emotions and is a homage to the good old days but with an independent handwriting.
„...it could be the soundtrack to the movie documentary of our youth that we all carry in our head, heart and soul“.
