Mount Pleasant, Michigan’s DECEDENT continue their descent into downtuned brutal death metal, with their new EP ‘Predestined For Tragedy’, out July 10 via Iron Fortress Records on vinyl and CD.
Following the release of their debut full-length ‘For Those In Shallow Graves’ (Iron Fortress Records, 2025), a nine-track barrage of gore-soaked death metal praised for its cavernous low end, chaotic groove, and “cosmic rotting trippiness”, DECEDENT return sharper, uglier, and more violent across four new tracks of riff-heavy punishment.
Streaming now, lead single ‘Ceremony of Evocation’ opens a gateway of mangled riffing, blast beats, and cavernous vocal filth, steeped in ritual and arcane invocation. You can watch the music video on the Iron Fortress Records YouTube channel (link in bio).
On the dark inspiration behind ‘Ceremony of Evocation’, DeMoines said: “I was reading Lux Aeterna at the time,” says bassist Malakai DeMoines. “It’s all wizards, castles, and ritual-type stuff, and the idea of some villain doing ceremonies to summon forces just felt perfect for a death metal song. It clicked instantly.”
Across ‘Predestined For Tragedy’, DECEDENT channel the influence of Scattered Remnants, Malignant Altar, and Sanguisugabogg into their own strain of death metal brutality, with guest appearances from Billy Williams (Anhedonia) on ‘Seraphic Immurement’ and Damon MacDonald (Dying Remains) on ‘Interminable Gouging’.
