CROWNED IN ASH is about enduring pain and suffering that nearly destroys you and emerging from it stronger than before.
Once you reach the other side, you realize the victory you were chasing was never what you expected. The “crown” turned out to be made of ash, and the true price was simply surviving the journey itself.

I crawled out of the furnace
With my skin split open wide
Smoke welded to the walls of my lungs
Shattered teeth against cold ground

I was told that I would dissolve in the dark
That my name would fade to nothing
To capitulate, disintegrate
Spine bent back to surrender

I recall the taste of iron
My pulse grinding through my skull
The hours locked into place
The sky stared down silent and cold

I moved through screaming corridors
Dripping walls of grief and rust
Floors layered with the wreckage
Of those who fell here before me

As the pyres whisper
In the silence of the embers
Crowned in ash
I rose while the inferno choked

Every step tore muscle from bone
Every breath scraped like broken glass
My own shadow tightened around my throat
when I slept

With eyes burned pale by rage
With a voice stripped raw of humanity
I spoke through the dust and broken bones

The abyss bared its teeth
I tore its jaws up wider
I feed it its own fire
And watched the darkness choke
