Artist Bio: Cult of the Moon was formed in 2022 in Haifa, northern Israel, by longtime friends Roman Klebanov and Andrey Kogan, formerly of the melodic death metal band Katastrof.
United by a shared passion for melodic yet uncompromisingly heavy music, the two founded the project as a meeting point between contrasting extremes.
Andrey’s vision draws from atmospheric black metal influences such as Agalloch, embracing nocturnal, lunar-themed atmospheres, while Roman brings a more technical and aggressive death metal approach inspired by bands like All Shall Perish.
This contrast defines Cult of the Moon’s sound, shaping a collaborative songwriting process where both visions coexist.
In 2023, the project evolved into a full band with the addition of drummer Maor “Morax” Nesterenko, a respected figure in the Israeli metal scene known for his work with Winterhorde, Eternal Decay, and Romuvos. As the material solidified, the band began work on their debut album, Lunar Eclipse.
During the recording process, bassist Alfred Samuel joined the band remotely from India, contributing to the completion of the album.
Mixing and mastering were handled in Italy by Francesco Sebastiani of Okhema.
Cult of the Moon blends atmosphere and aggression, uniting blackened ambience, technical precision, and melodic weight under a shared lunar vision.
Their debut album ''Lunar Eclipse’' was finally released on 26th of January, 2026.
