From shadowed desire to ritual and release, “Pagan Woman” marks the opening chapter of Planes of Torment, the first step on a Heavy Metal pilgrimage through loss, illusion, and transformation. Rooted in the towering power of Led Zeppelin, The Cult, Uriah Heep, and Mountain, the song fuses massive riffs, hypnotic and sensual rhythms, and raw vocal intensity into a journey through heartbreak and longing. “Pagan Woman” traces the unraveling of love, evoking the natural cycle of decay and renewal, destruction and rebirth.
Recorded live in the studio, “Pagan Woman” captures the primeval force of a band playing on the edge, channeling heartbreak, obsession, and awakening through the grandeur and glory of the golden age of hard rock and the dawn of heavy metal. As the first chapter of Planes of Torment, it is both invocation and threshold, a song where heartbreak becomes ritual, the call to adventure is accepted, and the long journey through the Planes of Torment begins.

Following the critical acclaim of 2022’s Doom Charts–topping Usurper of the Universe, SÖNUS’ multi-instrumental mastermind David Wachsman stood at the summit as the ground beneath him gave way, his inner and outer worlds collapsing in a cataclysm of mind, body, and spirit. What followed was a true descent, a stripping away through dissolution, loss, and unrelenting trial, a passage into uncertainty where familiar names, forms, and certainties were burned away. Beaten down, but undeterred, he put his faith in Rock and assembled a powerful team of sonic sorcerers, determined to etch their names into the annals of Heavy Metal history.
With Wachsman on the pen, lead vocals, rhythm, and lead guitar; joining on bass, the lord of the low-end, Dave Reno. On drums: the bringer of thunder, Colin Drake Jaramillo. With help from the Titan from Tipperary, “Gory” Mike Gorman on rhythm guitar and special guest Will Harper (on the flute in the epic “Scorpio”) joining them in the studio, the fearsome band united to forge an infernal slab of Heavy Metal, “Planes of Torment.” This album is the culmination of more than 3 years of literal blood, sweat, and tears.
Recorded live in the studio to capture the raw, untamed power of their performances, it's a blistering, hell-bent journey through madness, heartbreak, and despair. Yet, within it burns the unrelenting will to survive, to fight, and to triumph with a sound that harkens back to the golden age of hard rock and the dawn of heavy metal. The Planes of Torment await — May you find the strength to endure with SÖNUS!
