KING ULTRAMEGA is a heartfelt musical tribute to Chris Cornell, launched alongside SOUNDGARDEN’s long-overdue induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Created by bassist and producer Mark Menghi, the project began quietly in 2020 with a cover of “Rusty Cage” and grew into a powerful homage to Cornell’s voice and legacy.

The project gained new depth when SOUNDGARDEN guitarist Kim Thayil joined and re-recorded one of his own songs. “Once Kim got involved, I knew something special was happening,” Menghi says. The lineup features legendary musicians including Joe Satriani, Charlie Benante, William DuVall, Alissa White-Gluz, and others, all supporting the MusiCares Foundation.

KING ULTRAMEGA is not about reinventing Cornell’s work but honoring it with care and respect. Menghi explains, “Every decision asked, ‘How would Chris like this?’” Each performance is rooted in deep admiration for Cornell’s artistry.

For Menghi, Cornell’s music has been a lifelong presence. This project reflects that connection and serves as both a personal journey and a tribute to one of the greatest voices of our time. KING ULTRAMEGA is a reminder of Cornell’s enduring impact and a way to keep his legacy alive.
